Our
Mission

Neptune is on a mission to Restore Humankind's Healthy Relationship with the Sea.
You know, like, the way it's supposed to be.
Our sustainable ocean snacks help reduce seafood waste, support local wild-caught fisheries, and mobilize ocean heroes [you!] to build a better food system.

What We're
Fighting to Change

90%

of U.S. Seafood is imported

And the U.S. exports 80% of our domestic catch. Wait, what? Yeah. It's complicated, but comes down to a market that fails to value our local, sustainable fishers and fisheries.

1/2

of the edible seafood supply in the U.S. is wasted

That's 2,300,000,000 lbs. of seafood waste/year -- enough to food 10M people. Every year. Why?

<1/2%

of seafood is reliably traceable

This is how illegal, unreported, and unsustainable seafood still reaches our plate. How can we have sustainability without traceability?

How does neptune
fish jerky make a mark?

Abundance & scienceat the source

Our source fisheries—Wild Alaska Pollock and Pacific Rockfish—are wild, well-managed, and increasingly plentiful in U.S. coastal waters. These are success stories of what a healthy, growing fishery should look like anywhere in the world.

“Cutting” waste

Neptune also sources undervalued fillets that are premium restaurant-quality, but may go to waste because they are undersized cuts, “imperfect” in shape, or just surplus. With a 12-month shelf-life, our jerkies also approach the high perishability problem in seafood, cutting carbon emissions and waste at every step of the supply chain.

100% traceability in every bite

We’ve built a model partnering with domestic and small-scale US fishers, to guarantee source traceability, so you know you’re supporting ethical, responsible fishing communities with your purchase.

WHAT DOES SEAFOOD HAVE TO DO WITH CLIMATE CHANGE?

A LOT! LIKE, A LOT A LOT. THIS IS REASON #1 WHY NEPTUNE BELIEVES IN FOOD FROM THE SEAS.

Large-scale agriculture is one of top global contributors to global warming, and that’s before food waste is factored in. For the last few hundred years, the way we grow food has depleted freshwater aquifers, driven deforestation, and has stripped away critical topsoil (thus releasing billions of tonnes of carbon).

SO, HOW CAN WHAT WE EAT COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE RATHER THAN DRIVING IT?

Through supporting farming methods—like regenerative agriculture—that capture carbon in healthy soil, and by building a regenerative ocean food system, which can deliver tremendous amounts of healthy, delicious food for the planet. That, and chipping away at food waste.
THE SUSTAINABLE, WILD FISH WE SOURCE requires no freshwater or agricultural land mass, no inputs like feeds and fertilizers, and less energy, meaning a low carbon footprint.
